(AllHipHop News) Will Smith and his son Jaden have been sending shipments of their eco-friendly bottled water to help the people of Flint, Michigan amid their ongoing pollution crisis.
The father and son duo founded the JUST company in 2015, and brand bosses have started sending crates of their products, which are packaged in paper-based cartons, to school authorities in the embattled city, where residents have been exposed to lead-contaminated water due to a change in river source in 2014.
JUST officials have already provided 9,200 bottles to school kids, and have pledged to continue donating until Flint’s tap water is safe to drink again.
“This just makes sense for us to do,” JUST CEO Ira Laufer told MLive. “After reading more about (Flint’s) challenges… we thought, ‘Let’s help these kids’.”
Authorities in Flint are currently working to replace the corroded water pipes, but the huge job is not expected to be completed until 2020.
The Smiths are not the first celebrities to step up and help the people of Flint – superstar Cher, and Mark Wahlberg and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sent water shipments to the area in 2016, while Beyonce, Big Sean, The Game, and Bruno Mars are among those who donated funds to pay for bottled water for residents.
