Will Smith
and director Joel Schumacher are developing a remake on the 1937 classic, "A
Star Is Born." The movie is the story f an upcoming actress who falls in
love with a successful actor, only to surpass him in fame as his own fortunes
begin to fall. The movie has been remade three time. In 1954’s version, it starred
actress Judy Garland (Dorothy in "The Wizard Of OZ,) and in 1976 it featured
Barbara Striesand and Kris Kristofferson.
According to sources, Smith has mentioned the
now single Jennfier Lopez, the enigmatic Lauryn Hill or 5 time Grammy winner
Alicia Keys as possible co-stars with Will Smith. Schumaker is not new to the
urban themed movie. He was a screenwriter for 1976 classic "Car Wash,"
which starred Richard Pryor and George Carlin, "Sparkle," which was
released the same year and featured Irene Cara and 1977’s "The Wiz,"
which starred Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Richard Pryor.
He also directed such blockbusters as "Batman
Forever," "A Time To Kill" and "The Lost Boys." In
related news, Smith’s Born To Reign album hits stores today. Born
To Reign, which is the light hearted hip-hop fans have expected of Smith
does have a highlight. The opening track features Smith explaining to the hip-hop
community his choice of lyrical content and the dangers of the "thug lifestyle."
