Wyclef Jean
will perform a free concert this Friday (June 14th) aboard the USS Interprid
aircraft carrier. The concert, dubbed "Wyclef Jean Life…A Freedom Concert,"
was originally to take place at Coney Island NY’s Astroland Park. The concert
was moved due to crowd control issues, as several thousand people are expected
to catch the concert.
The concert is part of a series being presented
by MuchMusic USA music channel. It is scheduled to air at 9 P.M. and again at
midnight EDT on June 20th.
Earlier this month, Jean was arrested at the
Mobilization For Education Rally, in protest to the way police officers were
handling some of the youthful patrons. "We salute Wyclef Jean for his willingness
to be arrested as a show of support for the education of our youth," Russell
Simmons said of Wyclef in a letter Simmons wrote to the New York Daily News.
Jean’s latest solo album, Masquerade is due in
stores June 18th.
