Deitch Projects will present a show of historic
photos and flyers from the first decade of Hip Hop at Deitch Brooklyn in New
York. The exhibition celebrates the publication of "Yes Yes Y’all: The
Experience Music Project Oral History of Hip-Hop’s First Decade" by
Jim Fricke and Charlie Ahearn with an introduction by Nelson George (Da Capo
Press).
With over 100 photos and flyers—brought
together for the first time at the Deitch exhibit—"Yes Yes Y’all:
The Birth of Hip Hop" is a visual record of the birth of Hip Hop. The show
is comprised of a number of photos that Charlie Ahearn took during his pre-Wild
Style days in the Bronx and also includes many other photos and flyers that
were generously donated from private scrapbooks and closets of the hip hop pioneers
themselves.
The show opens November 1st and runs through
December 1st. The opening will be hosted and DJ’ed by Grandmaster Caz, Captain
of The Cold Crush Brothers. Deitch Brooklyn is located at 110 North 1st Street
(between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue) in Brooklyn, New York.
There will be an advance media preview from 5:00
to 7:00 pm.
