With their first hit single, “Whistle While You Twurk,” D-Roc and Kaine of The Ying Yang Twins began to make a name for themselves in Atlanta and the throughout the south. Since then, hits like “Say I YiYi,” “Naggin,” and “Get Low” have brought Ying Yang from regional to national success.
“There’s such a big dent in the game right now cause we finally getting a fair shot. We always got a shot, but the point was never being driven home cause people don’t wanna pay us no f**kin’ attention. Well, the day of you dictating the game is over cause the natural karma got us here,” D-Roc explained to AllHipHop.com.
The ‘natural karma’ must be the crunk factor, which has turned Atlanta’s signature club sound into the newest national craze. With hit makers like Beat In Azz and Lil Jon producing tracks, Ying Yang are in the right place at the right time.
Kaine said that regardless of this trend, Ying Yang’s sound has not changed.
“Every time some original s**t jump off, there’s always a bandwagon riding that came with it. The vibe we got is original…so when the element of crunk dies we’ll still be here.”
The Ying Yang Twins are approaching platinum record sales with their newest release Me and My Brother. “We didn’t get it handed to us like everybody else. We still independent” Kaine asserted. Collipark Records and TVT Records are the brainpower behind the Ying Yang Twins.
“For millions of dollars, they’ll [major labels] allow you to come out and be in the hole. These majors aint gonna be involved no more. They gonna have to give it up to the independents. We have shown that it’s not the label with us,” Kaine continued.
With two hit albums, regular rotation on radio stations nationwide, and collaborations with the likes of pop t### Britney Spears, The Ying Yang Twins have proven that a major record deal and the usual industry politics do not necessarily determine success.
“Without the fans, there would be no such thing as Ying Yang cause if it was left up to the industry we would not be here today” D-Roc exclaimed. That’s why we are fans number one fan.”
Many fans consider The Ying Yang Twins ridiculous because of their gold teeth, but they have consistently supported the duo’s country accents, silly personalities, and tolerated their signature expression, “Hanh!” True to themselves, D-Roc and Kaine did not change in order to make it mainstream and they are laughing all the way to the club.
