The Santa Monica Police Department seek to arrest G-Unit rapper Young Buck for the alleged stabbing of a Los Angeles man at the Vibe Awards, which were taped on Monday evening.
After viewing the show footage, taped by several cameras, police charged that the 23-year-old rapper (real name Darnell Brown) stabbed 26-year-old Jimmy James Johnson after the man attacked producer Dr. Dre.
Johnson approached Dre as the producer was accepting a Vibe award and acted as if he wanted an autograph, but began punching the Compton-bred beat maker when he got close to him.
At that point, dozens of people began to fight. Police said that Young Buck and three other unidentified men wielded knives in the Santa Monica Municipal Airport hangar.
Subsequently, Buck, who has had minor offenses in the past, now faces assault with a deadly weapon charges. Jones sustained a collapsed lung and is currently in stable condition.
At a press conference, J.T. Butts of the Santa Monica PD gave a detailed explanation of why the Nashville native rapper was charged in the event.
"Mr. Brown is seen lunging over another male and swinging the knife at Mr. Johnson’s upper body while Johnson is looking away from him. He is clearly depicted holding the knife after the assault and was a number of fight participants sprayed by pepper spray. Brown then fled the scene and was not identified until earlier this morning,” Butts said. “We are asking Mr. Brown to surrender himself to the Santa Monica Police Department immediately."
The police also said that they were not immediately able to establish in link between Jones and Suge Knight, who has expressed contempt for Dre in the past.
Butts said that other arrests were forthcoming after further review of the incident.
Presently, neither Young Buck or G-Unit had a comment on the matter.
