ON THA M.O.V.E.The M.O.V.E. Organization or “CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT FOR LIFE” , was a group started by John Africa , that focused on self sufficiency and a natural way of life mixed with revolutionary politics. In 1978 , Philadelphia Police raided M.O.V.E. , a shoot out ensued , resulting in 1 police officer dead , 7 Police officers wounded , 5 firefighters wounded , 3 M.O.V.E. members , 3 bystanders wounded , and 9 M.O.V.E. members locked up for 30 – 99 Yrs …… for allegedly firing 1 bullet. It has been alleged that all were victims of the initial police barrage that was first fired at M.O.V.E.BLACK AMERICA’s WACO
On May 13, 1995 , at a new location , and as a result of neighbor complaints , Philadelphia Police used tear gas , along with Fire Dept water cannons as they fired 10,000 shots into M.O.V.E.’s home , before they dropped military grade explosives ( C-4 ) , onto their roof , resulting in the death of John Africa , 5 other adults and 5 children , and burning down the M.O.V.E. house , along with every other house on the block… including those of the complaining neighbors. 61 homes in all were destroyed , along with 11 lives lost , in what has been called by some : “ BLACK AMERICA’S WACO”.ROMONA AFRICA : M.O.V.E.
MUMIA ABU JAMAL WINS ONE…SORTA?Mumia Abu Jamal is a former Black Panther and M.O.V.E. / Republic Of New Afrika supporter who was sentenced to death for shooting Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner , on Dec. 9 , 1981. Mumia has spent the last 30 years in solitary confinement , on death row. The Supreme Court ruled that he was unfairly sentenced to death , legally speaking , and reversed his death sentence to life without parole ( LWOP ) , without addressing a new trial for other pre-trial judicial errors , but a previous ruling obtained by the D.A. keeps Mumia in solitary confinement … possibly forever. Between Mumia , Daniel , their suffering families and supporters , at this stage , no set of circumstances could be considered a real win by either side after so much has been already lost.MOVEMENT VS REVOLUTIONMovements move some , then stop. Revolutions keep revolving until they come back , like with Qaddafi. Real revolutions begin within , starting with self sufficiency. Water , Food , Shelter . Economics , Mental , Cultural , etc. OCCUPY WALLSTREET shows that more and more people are starting to see that something is fundamentally wrong with the system and are willing to step up and try to change it. 43 Million people are on food stamps in America.
