Hip Hop Mogul Michael Williams’ “Guns 4 Greatness” Begins, Includes Life Mentoring
(AllHipHop News) This Saturday (March 30th), Brooklyn will witness its first-ever public and private sector gun buyback initiative for the New York City public called “Guns 4 Greatness” [ALSO READ: Hip-Hop Mogul Proposes “Guns For Greatness” Program Featuring Tickets To Beyoncé & Jay-Z Concerts] The initiative was envisioned and is spearheaded by legendary Hip Hop manager Michael “Blue” Williams. The gun buyback consists of people relinquishing guns to the program anonymously and subsequently receive a bank card for the amount designated for their type of gun. Operational guns are worth $200 and non-operational guns are worth $20. The initiative also attempts to address deeper, psychological measures of gun control and takes rehabilitative turn as each participant gets a card with a 10-digit number which allows them to receive introductory life mentoring sessions. Guns 4 Greatness is potentially partnering with Beyonce and the New York Yankees to provide tickets to shows and games for participants who consistently attend their life mentoring sessions. As of late February there were also talks of including Jay-Z, who will be performing with Justin Timberlake at Yankee Stadium in July to be a part but no confirmation has been issued. Williams held a press conference yesterday (March 27th) at Christian Culture Center in Brooklyn, NY. The event had a few distinguished speakers including Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Reverend A.R. Bernard, Rich Buery, Gregory Thomas and G4G Partners L. Londell McMillan as well as candidate for Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson. Williams, who began this initiative after the alleged suicide of his good friend and legendary Hip Hop manager/power broker Chris Lighty, believes Guns for Greatness is an opportunity to practically fix the gun culture in New York City: This is a chance to positively reinforce a young person’s decision to turn away from violence and show everybody that there’s another way. Our youth mean everything, and they deserve a different path than what’s often laid out for them.”No stop and frisks but involved Williams is the CEO of the full-service music management firm, Family Tree Entertainment which has a roster including Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, Eric Benet and many others He has helped raise over $75,000 for the initial launch and celebrity support from Mary J Blige, Nick Cannon, Jamie Foxx and many others. The first Guns 4 Greatness event is set for Saturday March 30, 2013 from 10am to 4pm at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, NY. There will also be buyback programs in urban communities all across the United States and prospective participants can make donations on the initiative’s official website www.guns4greatness.org.

Hip-Hop Mogul Proposes “Guns For Greatness” Program Featuring Tickets To Beyoncé & Jay-Z Concerts
(AllHipHop News) Gun violence has become a major social and political issue recently, and now one high-profile Hip-Hop executive is proposing a plan to encourage young people to trade in their firearms for mentorships and concert tickets. The New York Daily News is reporting that hugely successful artist manager and president of Family Tree Entertainment, Michael “Blue” Williams, sent a letter to the New York Police Department pitching the idea for “Guns For Greatness.” If approved by NYC Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, William’s program will be the city’s first private sector gun buyback initiative. “We want to get as many guns off the streets, and if this works, we’d like to support it,” Kelly told the Daily News. After meeting with top brass at NYPD last week, Williams wrote an open letter addressed to Kelly. The letter was co-signed by Richard Buery (President and CEO of the Children’s Aid Society), L. Londell McMillan (publisher of The Source), and former federal prosecutor Kenneth Thompson. It read in part: This program aims to provide young people with an opportunity to receive guidance and inspiration from committed mentors, an important option that will enable them to experience possibilities other than a life surrounded by gun violence and unnecessary shootings and killing. One way Williams hopes to help get the guns off the streets is by offering tickets to see superstars like Beyoncé and Jay-Z at their next New York concerts. “The Beyoncé show is coming to Brooklyn; the Jay-Z show is coming to Yankee Stadium. Our goal is to reach out to individuals who are in my industry, in my world and who I have an association with and get their support,” said Williams. Williams has a long history working in the music business. He has managed Hip-Hop heavyweights like OutKast, Cee-lo Green, and Scarface. He started his managerial career at Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit, and worked at both Def Jam and LaFace Records. He was also a business partner of the late Chris Lighty. [ALSO READ: BREAKING NEWS: Sources: Chris Lighty Dead] It was Lighty’s death last August as the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot and his own recent gun charge that inspired Williams to propose “Guns For Greatness.” “It was just sort of like a pushing point,” Williams said. “It eventually convinced me that one person can make a difference if they believe in something. Williams says he has already raised $75,000 for “GFG” with the goal of reaching $100,000. New York has had a city-run handgun buyback program in place for years. With participants receiving up to $200 for each firearm the costs for such a deal can be expensive for taxpayers. Similar programs in San Francisco ran out of money. William’s privatized “Guns For Greatness” could be a financial remedy for cash-strapped city governments.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Violator Is Now Owned By Chris Lighty’s Ex?
Chris Lighty’s ex-wife/widow may very well be the current owner of Violator Management, for what its worth. You know the company seemed to be somewhat phased out even when Lighty was alive, but it represented so much more historically. I’m talking all the way back in the day stuff out in the streets. But, a lot has changed. I am hearing that most of the key people in the company have departed without the leadership of Baby Chris. But, before he passed away to an apparent suicide, he seemingly willed the company away to his widow. She’s rumored to be on the run from the loyal wolves. I’m hearing she is Houston after being run out of Miami. Who knows. Anyway, 50 Cent’s investigation has turned up basically nothing from what I heard. You know, he got a private investigator but it has not gotten any material evidence that Chris Lighty was murdered. I thought some of you would like to know this update.
