Hip-Hop Rumors: Wait, So Queen Latifah Didn't Come Out?

Last month, Queen Latifah headlined the Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival and during her set, she was quoted as saying a few things that many took as her implying that she was “coming out of the closet.” The online media ran with it, and many people reported that she had indeed finally come out of the closet. Well, Queen Latifah wants you to know that she was misconstrued. Check out what she told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview: “That definitely wasn’t the case. I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public. It’s just not gonna happen.” Although Latifah didn’t admit to being a lesbian, she still showed support for the gay community, saying: “To me, doing a gay pride show is one of the most fun things. My first show that paid more than $10,000 was in a gay club on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco. Tupac happened to be in town, so he came to kick it with me. This was the early ’90s. And the boys were like, ‘Take your shirt off, Tupac!’ He wasn’t doing that. But we had a blast in there.” Well, there you have it. Queen Latifah is not gay, and those women you always see her around…yeah, those are just her friends.
