The Roots’ Black Thought is on a roll these days! First off, he’s bringing in that good, steady loot from moonlighting on the “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” show every week. His longtime Hip-Hop band, The Roots, had one of the best albums of 2011 in undun (although we think it’s a sin that they never get as much credit or as many sales as they deserve). And now, we hear through the grapevine that the Philadelphia native may be setting his sights on Hollywood??? According to our source, Black Thought is being considered for an important role in an epic, upcoming film about a super-famous, deceased Jazz musician and his wife. Since we’re not ones to gossip (LOL), we asked Black Thought about it directly, as AllHipHop.com’s Seandra Sims interviewed him in a dim, backstage setting this past weekend at his GrassROOTS charity concert in Philly. Watch the clip to see what the extra-private lyricist had to say about possibly appearing on the big screen soon: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8zkvrlB3Mc]
(AllHipHop News) Legendary jazz musician Miles Davis will be on the receiving end of a new honor, with the U.S. Postal Service recognizing him with his own stamp. As part of a joint issue with the U.S. and the French postal service, La Poste, stamps honoring Davis and French singer Edith Piaf will be issued in 2012. Davis’ latest achievement comes more than 20 years after his death on September 28, 1991, in Santa Monica, Ca. During his lifetime, the trumpeter became known as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century, and was instrumental in the creation of bebop, jazz fusion, cool jazz, and hard bop. Davis, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, also delved into Hip-Hop with his final studio album, Doo-Bop, on a collaboration with DJ/producer, Easy Mo Bee. The posthumous honor for the musician was nothing more than “fitting” in the eyes of Lee Barham, chairman of the steering committee for the Miles Davis Jazz Celebration. “Miles Davis was one of the greatest jazz musicians and trumpet players in the world. Before Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, there was Miles Davis,” Barham told The Telegraph.
