Neo-soul, R&B, and funk icon D’Angelo recently gave a lengthy interview to documentarian Nelson George as a part of the Red Bull Music Academy Festival in New York at the Brooklyn Museum. George also featured D’Angelo in his documentary “Finding The Funk” earlier this year. D’Angelo is known as a musical genius and one of the best artists and musicians of our time, especially for R&B and soul. D’Angelo is also an amazing instrumentalist on the piano and guitar. His voice is an instrument itself as his range spans 5 octaves and his vocals and music showcase melodious chords and runs. Brown Sugar and Voodoo were pivotal albums in the neo-soul movement. There were plenty of jewels in this interview such as how D’Angelo’s first experience at the Apollo nearly ended in disaster. D’Angelo shared that he likes going “deep into the onion” when recording, and Mtume gave him a much needed confidence boost at a critical moment. Viewers also learn that D’Angelo met Quest Love on a show where Goodie Mob, The Fugees, and The Roots were playing. In the lecture spanning nearly 90 minutes, the torchbearer of R&B soul opened up in a way that fans have rarely seen him do before. Check out the full lecture video below. PRAS: LAURYN HILL BROKE DOWN IN TEARS THE FIRST TIME SHE RECORDED “READY OR NOT”
WYCLEF JEAN HAS “NO MONEY” ACCORDING TO HIS ACCOUNTANT
(AllHipHop News) Pras, of The Fugees fame, is suing a Los Angeles recording studio because they allegedly swindled him in over $5,000 in money designated for studio time. Pras scheduled time to record music in the Hollywood studio of Jason Gluz and Chasen Spellman, but says he never got to record there since they double booked the time. According to TMZ, the Pras paid $5,600 to rent the studio, but never got a refund on his money. Furthermore, Pras charged in a lawsuit that he also shelled out money for hotel and airfare. He’s now suing the pair for $9,000 in small claims court, in a suit that was filed in Los Angeles county.
The Fugees’ Video Director Sentenced To 50 Years, Impregnated His Daughters
WOW….this brother is crazy! I actually forgot about this debacle! But, what had happened was, this dude was pretty much the man at one point. Yeah, Aswad Ayinde directed the video for the Fugee’s “Killin’ Me Softly,” but what he killed was his own family in an attempt to create a “pure bloodline.” He gets a C for crazy and an A for a##hole. Dude has babies with THREE – that’s right – THREE of his six daughters (there were three other pregnancies that I guess didn’t bear kids). He’s already been found guilty on ONE of the cases, 40 years for that one. Dude is 54 and he’s got four more to go. You see where this is headed. He’s got 6 daughters and 5 trials! OUCH! Dude, this ain’t funny, but for some reason, his daughter said he thought he was better than the rest of us. “He felt that I was of his own creation. He felt he was above the law,” she reportedly said in court. Ayinde won an MTV award in 1996 for directing The Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly” video. Now, he faces multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child and lewdness towards one of his six daughters. Ayinde’s defense has been that he wasn’t raping his daughters….he was keeping it all up in the family. Man, this dude is accused of raping them as well as the mothers of his own daughters. He’s looking at over 100 years in jail. He needs to very concerned. Actually, no…he probably needs to ponder suicide as a viable option for a worth wild future at this point. Or, they gonna be killin’ him loudly. At least he left us with this: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX4qkQmT22g?feature=player_detailpage&w=640&h=360] Illseed, Out. STATUE STICK-UPS: THE TOP 5 BIGGEST GRAMMY SNUBS IN HIP-HOP HISTORY
According to Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill led him to believe that her first child, Zion, was his baby all the way up until the baby was born. In a recent interview with the “Wendy Williams Show”, Wyclef revealed that the baby was too light-skinned to be his child. Check out what he said below: “I was there, I came to the hospital (and) I just knew. When I looked (at the child)… all babies don’t look alike, that was a yellow baby, that wasn’t my baby.” Below is a photo of Lauryn with her son Zion when he was about two years old: I wonder why Lauryn didn’t tell Clef sooner that the baby wasn’t his? There is a possibility that she just didn’t know whose baby it was. Dang, talk about “Lost Ones.” Do Wyclef’s recollections taint your image of Lauryn Hill?
