The ignorance in hiphop/rap is astounding! Did you read what rapper Young Thug said about not listening to Jay Z? This skinny b####-de-fied rapper said (and I quote):
“If you’re 30, 40 years old, you’re not getting listened to by minors… Like, Jay Z has some of the sickest lyrics ever, but I would never buy his CD, just because of my age. By the time I turn that old, I ain’t gonna be doing what he’s doing.” I don’t want to be 50 years old and rapping, man. I’m pretty sure nobody wants to do that. I’m pretty sure Jay Z don’t wanna rap right now.”
Where do I start?
Can you imagine a young Wynton Marsalis not wanting to listen to trumpeters Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie & Miles Davis—or saxophonist Gerald Albright not wanting to listen to Charlie “Birdman” Parker & John Coltrane—or R&B singers D’Angelo, Chris Brown, Usher, Neyo, Beyonce, & K Michelle not wanting to listen to Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Luther Vandross, Al Green & Marvin Gaye—just ‘cause they’re from another era, another generation, old?
Thee audacity!
I vividly remember as a child listening, but not listening to some of my dad’s records—Jimmy Smith’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” Dave Brubeck’s “Time Out”—and a shed-load of other records that grown folk were listening to during the 60’s/70’s that we kids considered “Old Folk Music.” Today I own vinyl copies of the aforementioned and realize that pop had exquisite taste in music. When I grew up and had kids, I made sure they listened to all the classic R&B, Jazz, Rock and even “Golden Age Rap” songs and now I can proudly say that one of my children grew up to be a professional musician.
Young Thug is what’s wrong with rap music! How dare you think, feel or believe that young people won’t and don’t buy Jay Z’s music because he’s older! Newsflash! I’ll be 55 years old in a few months and I know who your monstrunky a$$ is Young Thug! I love “Danny Glover” and “Stoner” goes hard! I’d buy your album if you have at least four (4) great songs on it. Age has no bearing on what I purchase! I love great music from young and old/er alike!
Jay Z is still making hit records! His albums are classics and timeless! You’ve implied that Jay Z has to make records. Yes you did! What do you mean, “I’m pretty sure Jay Z don’t wanna rap right now?” By extrapolation, in your puny mind, you think Jay Z needs the money or just wants to stay relevant. SMH. Yo! Young Thug! Jay & Bey are just about billionaires! Can you dig that? Billionaires!!!!! Jay Z has more money than your boss, Birdman! He raps because he’s a musician!
Artistry doesn’t die and neither do real artists chase coins! Artists do art for the love of the art! When you see old-ass rockin’ rollers still performing—they’re doing it because art dictates that they do art! There is no age limit on doing art—save (accept) in hip-hop where ignant ni**as like Young Thug think the “Jay Zs” of the world should put down the microphone.
The idea that rap is a “young man’s sport” may have some truth, but it is not an absolute truth. At some point (when he gets older) “Young” Thug will become “Thug” (without the Young)—and then Thug’s career may flounder and he’ll need a “Hug” (without the T)—and if “Hug” tries to continue rapping beyond his allotted “Fifteen Minutes of Fame”—the “H” may somersault to the back of his name (when we hear his music) and we’ll start calling him, “Ugh!”—as in, your music sucks!
Jeffrey Williams a.k.a. Young Thug—sitcho black a$$ down somewhere! You ain’t put nann album out yet and your mixtape is just aiiight. You’d better pray that anyone even wants to hear you rap at 50! And speaking of old-ass rappers—why you got your boss, Baby, who, by the way is older than Jay Z rapping on your song/video? As the great ghetto failure Suge Knight once said to Puff Daddy, “To all you artists out there, who don’t wanna be on a record label where the executive producer’s [Birdman, in this case] all on the records, dancin’ [rapping, in this case], come to Death Row!” Birdman can’t (really) rap! Get his old-ass off the record/screen! And while I’m on the Cash Money mogul, tha hell you doin’ to your “son?” The lil dude you boldly kissed on the mouf? Lil Wayne? You think Young Thug is your new pu$$y now? He will never do Wayne numbers!
I dig your fashion sensibilities, even being bold enough to wear a lil girl’s dress, but your commentary proves that you’re not a true artist. You’re a ni**a chasing fame & fortune. If you’re really about this hip-hop/rap life you’d be encouraging the young to pick up Jay Z and the like! You’d be sounding the trumpet of ageless music! You’d be like my dad—making the younger listen to that classic ish that gave rap its footing. And what do you know about old-a$$ “Danny Glover?” Ah! So you’ve been paying attention, eh? Now stop will the b####### commentary, because you really don’t have a clue what the young are bootlegging buying, just like you didn’t know a 55 year old knows your music! PS. Me & Prince been wearing the “Poet Shirt” long before you! That’s old people ish!
