(AllHipHop News) Last night some of the biggest names in music gathered together at the Manhattan Center in New York City for the Broadcast Music, Inc R&B/Hip-Hop Awards hosted by Catherine Brewton and Ray J. The event celebrated the songwriters, producers, and publishers whose music made a major impact over the past year.
The showcase was also an evening to honor Cash Money Records co-founders Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams with the BMI Icon Award. Baby and Slim started the label in 1991. The highly successful imprint has since gone on to sell over 500 million songs worldwide.
Several rappers hit the stage to perform songs from the Cash Money discography. Hip Hop legend Doug E. Fresh took over hosting duties to introduce the tribute’s line-up. Trina showed up in a flowing red dress to cover Nicki Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life.” Curren$y gave an interpretation of Juvenile’s classic “Slow Motion,” and Mystikal rocked the crowd with Juvie’s “Ha.” The night ended with Cash Money associates Birdman, Lil Wayne, Mannie Fresh, Turk, and Juvenile reuniting for a run through of “Back That Azz Up,” “Still Fly,” and “Bling, Bling.”
Besides Baby and Slim several other artists walked away with BMI awards. Nicki Minaj took home an award for “Song Of The Year” for “Starships,” and the Young Money rapper also shared the “Songwriter of the Year” award with Benny Blanco. Hit-Boy won “Producer of The Year.” Machine Gun Kelly was selected by fans on Twitter for the “BMI Social Star Award.”
AllHipHop also spoke with several entertainers prior to the show to get their all-time favorite Cash Money Records song. Find out which CMB track artists like Juvenile, Turk, Kid Capri, Bridget Kelly, and more choose as their personal jam.
