One of the younger emcees the New Orleans native mentions during the SXSW interview is TDE’s Kendrick Lamar. According to Wayne, K. Dot is untouchable at the moment.
“Ain’t nobody touch that dude,” said Wayne about Kendrick.
The Young Money boss also spoke about some of the performers on his own label. He named Nicki Minaj as the best overall rapper and called Drake “a wonderful person.”
Wayne took the time to reflect on his place in Hip Hop at the moment and his legacy in the game. Rather than being viewed like The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, and Jay Z, Wayne says he wants to be remembered as a “good spirit, a good soul” similar to Willie Nelson or Snoop Dogg. He also stepped back from his former self-given titled of “Best Rapper Alive.”
“I am not going to be jumping out here talking about, ‘I’m the best,'” added Wayne. “I don’t need anybody jumping at my neck.”
Wayne is expected to drop a single from C5 this week. The album is reportedly scheduled for release on May 5th.
