Riverside Rapper 4lJavi Reveals His Top 5 & Love For Shoreline Mafia

Javi explains his sound, his new single “U,” the independent grind, and who’s in his Top 5.

Hailing from Riverside, 4ljavi is here to put his foot on the gas pedal and slay the rap game with full force.

The “Misunderstood” rapper grew up on both sides of the city (downtown and uptown), which exposed him to both the suburbs and the hood.

While he hung around people that were in the streets, his mama raised him right.

As far as the music, he’s known from the very beginning this was what he wanted to do as a career.

Last year was when he discovered his own sound and lane, making a conscious decision to dedicate his entire life to perfecting his craft.

AllHipHop: For those who don’t know, who is Javi?

Javi: Javi is that n*gga, one who really could do it all. He’s from Riverside you know he reps the IE. I can almost do it all… almost! I’m not doing no rock or no country, that’s the only thing I’m not gonna do.

AllHipHop: How would you describe your sound?

Javi: See that’s where it gets tricky because I have two sides. I can sing a little bit and I can rap too, so I’m an all-around artist.

AllHipHop: You just unleashed “U,” what was the inspiration here?

Javi: I was messing with somebody, it was hella long ago. She was saying stuff like she wasn’t sure if I was really all for her. It wasn’t really written for her, yet it was what I was going through so I just put everything in a song. I was saying “I’d do this for you, that for you. I can do this and that.” It was for a girl, but it’s not a dedication song or nothing.

AllHipHop: Has she heard it?

Javi: Yeah. [chuckles] She thinks it’s about her. But I’m always gonna turn her down: ”nope, it’s not about you. It’s just a regular song.” She don’t know except for this.

AllHipHop: How’s the independent grind?

Javi: Honestly, it’s not that bad. Because I hear a lot of stories from the signed artists how they can’t do certain stuff and it’s cool to have your own way of doing stuff. You can really have your whole agenda set up, and it’s all by yourself. But I do want to be signed though because I have a bigger budget to work with. I can be a bigger artist but as far as right now, it’s cool being independent. Still figuring it out.

AllHipHop: Favorite person to follow on IG?

Javi: It’s not even Drake ‘cause he doesn’t post that much. Right now, it’s Shoreline Mafia. It’s their styles that I f### with. They’re all over the place, they always shooting videos. What I like about them is they’re consistent. There’s always a new video, they were just on tour or have new merch. They always have something they’re pushing, that’s what I like about them.

AllHipHop: Who’s in your Top 5?

Javi: For sure, Drake. G-Herbo. #3 recently… is Brent Faiyaz. He is so cool. Myself for sure. And Justin Timberlake, I f### with Justin Timberlake.

AllHipHop: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Javi: By the time I’m 31, it’d be my last album is about to come out. Because my thing is, if I’m doing this for 10 years, it’s not gon’ keep on being…

AllHipHop: I mean, Lil Wayne’s still putting out music.

Javi: You’re right, Wayne’s a f###### monster though. Okay you know what, I’d still be doing music, but I’d be acting. Doing more acting than music.

AllHipHop: Is there anything else you want to let us know?

Javi: I got a new EP titled Joint of the Year. It’s a lot of aggressiveness and s###-talking. Because I’m really humble but in these 4 songs, I just had to get it out really quick.
