(AllHipHop News) In the coming years, 2013 may be seen as the turn around year for New York Hip Hop. Several rising East Coast artists and crews started getting serious attention from the media and rap fans over the last twelve months. One of those NYC collectives that made big waves in ’13 was Harlem’s A$AP Mob.
While the Mob’s A$AP Rocky became one of the few New York based rappers to log a #1 album in recent years, the “F**kin’ Problems” performer was also criticized for adopting a sound more reflective of the South and not embracing what some consider an authentic New York vibe. Fellow A$AP member A$AP Ferg feels that New York never had a distinct sound and artistic evolution is necessary in the creative process.

“New York came back, and New York never had a specific sound,” Ferg tells 1st Class Films. “If you really pay attention to Hip Hop, it went from ‘the hip hop, the hippie – everybody was rapping like that at one time. We’re suppose to keep rapping like that now? A couple of years later? No.”
Ferg also states that in the modern world the Internet allows artists to connect with musicians from across the globe and the result is a more universal sound that is not representative of any one place.
The A$AP Mob will get to display their various styles on the forthcoming compilation album Lords. The project is scheduled for release on March 14th, 2014.
