(AllHipHop News) Forbes magazine’s recent feature article on rising female rapper Iggy Azalea received significant backlash, but not because of the content of the piece. It was the article’s headline that had critics speaking out.

The Azalea story is now titled “Hip-Hop’s Unlikely New Star: A White, Blonde, Australian Woman,” but it was first headed with “Hip Hop Is Run By A White, Blonde, Australian Woman.” Those ten words led to complaints ranging from lack of knowledge of the culture to “click baiting” to a Caucasian author (Hugh McIntyre) attempting to “white-wash” Hip Hop.
Forbes later changed the headline and offered the following update:
The title of this article has been changed from its original version — “Hip Hop Is Run By A White, Blonde, Australian Woman” — because it did not accurately reflect the content of the piece. The author offers sincere apologies to anyone who was offended by it.
While Iggy Azalea was not responsible for the title of the story, The New Classic creator has also faced criticism for being racially insensitive. Fellow femcee Azealia Banks and others took issue with Iggy’s lyrics on the song “D.R.U.G.S.” where she rapped, “Tire marks, tire marks, finish line with the fire marks. When the relay starts, I’m a runaway slave-master.”
Banks was upset at the idea Iggy was referring to herself as “slave master.” Iggy later apologized for the lyrics saying it was “tacky and careless.”
