Hip Hop's Formative Years To Be Documented In New Comic Book

Ed Piskor’s “Hip Hop Family Tree” Combines Old School Hip Hop and Comics

(AllHipHop News) With forty years behind it, Hip Hop is constantly finding new ways to celebrate the culture’s rich history and educate younger generations on its founding participants. Comic artist Ed Piskor hopes to further honor rap’s beginning days with the upcoming print edition of his Hip Hop Family Tree.

What started as an online series on the site Boing Boing, Hip Hop Family Tree will now be published as a single volume. In it, Piskor re-tells the stories of some of the illustrious members of early Hip Hop through cartoons. Some of the subjects include DJ Kool Herc, Run-D.M.C., Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, The Funky Four Plus One, The Cold Crush Brothers, Afrika Bambaataa, Russell Simmons, Rick Rubin, Fab 5 Freddy, and Sylvia Robinson.

Hip Hop Family Tree also covers the historic moments, locations, and films that have significant importance to ’70’s and ’80’s Hip Hop. Even the hardships and troubling times of rap music’s “old school” are presented.

Hip Hop Family Tree is currently available for pre-order on Amazon. The collection will be released November 2nd.
