Nas, AZ, Niles Rodgers Collaborator Jerry Barnes Drops R&B Ode To “Black Lives Matter” Movement

SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC!

Jerry Barnes, a music veteran of soul and R&B, has dedicated a new song to the Black Lives Matter Movement.

The song is named “Justice” and it speaks on the ills of police brutality, abuse of power and disregard for human life.

In the song, Barnes croons:

He only was a child

You took away his smile

You really think you’re god, but you’re not

What made you take a life

Another sacrifice

We got you on the web, now you’re dead

Jerry Barnes has a storied legacy in music. he presently tours with Nile Rodgers and Chic, but has also recorded with other legends.  Jerry Barnes has produced, performed and written for artists like Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan, Carly Simon, Ashanti, Stevie Wonder, Patti Labelle, Latifah, Diana Ross, Sting, Phylis Hyman, Tony Terry, Maya, Bebe Winans, Bette Midler, Arif Mardin, and even rappers like  Nas, Rich Boy and AZ.

Barnes hopes the song will inspire change in thinking. “The song means All of the worlds atrocities ( especially U.S. Police killings of innocent people of color) are being filmed by people’s cell phones And their time of getting away with it is over,” he said.

Half of the proceeds for “Justice” goes to Doctors Without Borders, the humanitarian aid organization. He has also jump started a fund raising effort.

“The KickStarter is a way for me – 54 year old Black man without a label – to do my art and music freely without the traditional roadblocks,” he told AllHipHop. “And have the ability to pay for some production costs,
PR and social media marketing. No amount is too small.”
