Barack Obama Wax Figure Unveiled at Madame Tussauds

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama may be on a quest to become the next Commander in Chief, but a wax figure of the Illinois senator is finding a place with likenesses of rap icons Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. at Madame Tussauds Washington DC.   The Obama figure, which sits behind the famed Resolute Desk in Madame Tussauds’ replica of the Oval Office with fellow Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton on one side and John and Jackie Kennedy on the other side, was unveiled to the public for the first time yesterday (Feb. 11).   “Barack Obama has certainly earned his place among the political icons represented at Madame Tussauds Washington D.C.,” said Janine DiGioacchino, general manager of Madame Tussauds New York and Washington D.C. “Madame Tussaud’s is proud to add the Obama figure to the Spirit of Washington D.C. gallery where he will join other figures that have shaped the history of our nation.”   The unveiling comes as Obama and Clinton square off in today’s Potomac Primaries.   Obama goes into the primaries with a wave of momentum after sweeping Democratic primaries and caucuses this past weekend in Maine, Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington and the U.S. Virgin Islands.   Despite her opponent’s showing, CNN estimates state that Clinton is slightly ahead in amount of delegates she has collected.   The former first lady has 1,148 delegates, while Obama currently holds 1,121 delegates. To secure the Democratic presidential nomination, 2,025 delegates are needed.   On a lighter note, Obama bested Bill Clinton on Sunday (Feb. 10) by earning a Grammy award for best spoken word album for the audio version of his book The Audacity of Hope.
