Cardi B Reflects On Getting A Shout Out From Nipsey Hussle After Her Grammy Win

“That was her time. She got what she deserved.”

(AllHipHop News) On Monday, Cardi B added another industry award to her résumé when the native New Yorker won Best Hip Hop at the MTV Video Music Awards. She also picked up ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, BET Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2019.

Perhaps Cardi’s biggest award show moment came in February at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The Invasion of Privacy creator made history that night by becoming the first solo female rapper to win in the Best Rap Album category.

Invasion of Privacy triumphed at the Grammys over Mac Miller’s Swimming, Pusha T’s Daytona, Travis Scott’s Astroworld, and Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap. While some people – such as Pop singer Ariana Grande – seemed to have a problem with the Recording Academy honoring Cardi, Nipsey celebrated his fellow Atlantic Records artist taking home the golden gramophone.

“WHEN ITS YO TIME… ITS YO TIME! Congrats to @iamcardib on Her Grammy for Best Rap Album & Also being Tha 1st female to Do it! ,” wrote Nipsey Hussle on Instagram. The now-late, LA-based emcee also stated on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, “I seen certain people, even on my timeline, [saying,] ‘Man, you got cheated.’ Nah, we ain’t doing that. That ain’t the convo. That was her time. She got what she deserved.”

Yesterday, Cardi B went to Twitter to reflect on her Invasion of Privacy achievements, including the fact that all of the songs on the project have been certified Gold or Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). One of her tweets also focused on Hussle’s shout out.

“When I won Nipsey said on a comment to me WHEN IS YOUR TIME IS YOUR TIME! Now when I speak to upcoming [artists] or people who ask me for advice I tell them the same thing! WHEN IS YOUR TIME IS YOUR TIME and when it comes don’t let nobody take that special moment away from you!” posted Cardi. That tweet garnered more than 57,000 likes.
