Chinga Chang Records Owner Dan Herman Talks Mac Miller & Upcoming Benefit Event

The indie label executive shares his thoughts on what the ‘Swimming’ album creator meant to Hip Hop culture.

(AllHipHop News) On September 7, fans and friends of Malcolm “Mac Miller” McCormick will come together in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania to celebrate the late rapper. The vigil/party is scheduled to take place exactly one year after Miller passed away at the age of 26.

Donations collected at the event will go to the Mac Miller Fund. Chinga Chang Records, which helped organize the 9/7 memorial, has pledged to contribute $19.92 for every $1 donated by those in attendance.

“Mac meant a lot to so many people. It was amazing watching him represent real Hip Hop and keeping classic Hip Hop alive during his short time on earth,” Chinga Chang founder Dan Herman tells AllHipHop.

The Philadelphia native continues, “His foundation is very special because it allows him to keep bringing positive energy to people even after he is physically gone from us. It is an honor to be given the support from his family to do this event, I hope this will happen every year till infinity.”

Mac Miller’s parents, Karen and Mark McCormick, have given their consent for the gathering at The Spot Etc venue. CLOCKWORKDJ will be in the location to spin records from the Grammy-nominated artist’s catalog. Rabbi Yisroel Altein is also expected to give a short incantation.

“I found a location, partnered with DJCLOCKWORK, and got the McCormick family to support the event. I want everyone to be united and come together to honor Mac, and they will. Bet on that,” expresses Herman.
