DMX Facing A Weekend In Jail Over Driving Infractions

DMX will spend at least a weekend in jail for a recent driving infraction that took place in April of 2005 if he pleads guilty to the charges a Bronx judge said yesterday (Oct. 4). Yesterday, the rapper appeared in Bronx Criminal Court to answer charges of driving with a suspended license. DMX, born Earl Simmons, failed to make an appearance in court last Tuesday (Sept. 25). His lawyers told Judge George Villegas that the rapper was suffering from food poisoning after returning home from a European trip. The rapper was already on probation from with a suspended license from a June 2004 road rage incident at JFK Airport in Queens, New York. Judge Villegas told the rapper yesterday that if he pleaded guilty to the charges, he would be sentenced with the minimum which is a weekend in jail and a $1,000 fine. The rapper has maintained that he was rushing to the hospital because his wife was in labor, but prosecutors said the child was born three days later. In November of 2004, DMX’s license was suspended over the June 2004 incident at JFK. He avoided jail time after being accused of chasing another driver with flashing lights and sirens on his SUV through the parking lot. After crashing through a toll booth, DMX was allegedly pulling the other driver out of the car in a dispute over a parking space when police arrived. His charges were reduced to misdemeanor offenses. In December of 2004, he was arrested and charged with driving violations after police clocked the rapper driving over 100 mph in a 65 mph zone in Westchester, New York. The last reported incident was in April of 2005. DMX was driving on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, when he hit a car which then struck a police cruiser. The driver of the car DMX initially struck was treated for minor injuries and released. "This court is wearing me down," DMX told the New York Post as he was leaving the court yesterday. "I’m just tired." DMX recently made headlines when two fans accused the rapper of assaulting them in a Berlin, Germany nightclub bathroom. DMX is preparing his latest Island Def Jam album, titled Here We Go Again.
