Frats Pay Homage To Hip-Hop By Hosting Racist Party

Several fraternities at the University Of Texas are being accused of hosting parties where attendee’s wore racially offensive costumes. The parties were hosted by Phi Gamma Delta and Kappa Alpha. Kappa Alpha’s President, Tim Weaver, said that the party’s theme was meant to pay homage to "pop culture icons" and rap music. Several pictures were submitted to the university’s newspaper by students. One showed a white man with black paint on his face and body, an afro wig on and a chain and lock around his neck. Another man wore a T-Shirt with a large watermelon on it, while another wore a shirt commemorating a Juneteenth event. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery, which ironically originated in Texas.
