‘Hustlers’ Gives Jennifer Lopez The Best Live-Action Box Office Opening Of Her Career

The film’s audience was 67 percent women.

(AllHipHop News) Jennifer Lopez’s first major gig in Hollywood was appearing on the In Living Color television show as a Fly Girl dancer. Nearly 30 years later, the Bronx-bred entertainer is still a bankable movie star.

It: Chapter Two remained at #1 for a second week ($40 million). Hustlers, JLo’s latest motion picture, came in at #2. Director Lorene Scafaria’s stripper-revenge dramedy made $33.2 million at the box office in its opening weekend.

That total is the highest amount for a live-action Lopez-led movie, surpassing the $23 million for 2005’s Monster-in-Law. Plus, the $33.2 million is the largest opening for STXfilms, topping the $23.8 million for 2016’s Bad Moms.

Jennifer Lopez is already garnering Oscar buzz for her performance in Hustlers. The 50-year-old actress/singer also served as a producerConstance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Cardi B, and Lizzo star in the film as well.

“They are definitely anti-heroes and survivors in a game that is rigged,” says Lopez. “It all began with the idea that they would get back at the Wall Street big shots who turned the country upside down in 2008. But just as it is with any hustle, once you start playing it’s hard to find the courage to stop.”
