Judge Denies Remy Ma’s Request To Tour

Bronx Bred Rapper Remy Ma was denied permission to leave the United States yesterday (December 21).   Remy Ma, born Remy Smith, was to perform a five country European tour, which would have included stops in Paris, Antwerp, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Stockholm.   A United States judge prohibited her from traveling out of the country, due to allegations of assault, coercion, gang assault and witness intimidation.   Remy Ma stands accused of shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph twice in the abdomen in July 2007, after accusing Barnes-Joseph of stealing $2,000 from her purse at a nightclub.   The witness intimidation accusations stem from a separate incident, in which two men connected to witnesses of a shooting involving Remy Ma were assaulted.   According to Remy Ma’s lawyer, the cancelled shows will cost the rapper an estimated $40,000 in performance fees.   Additionally her lawyer revealed that Remy Ma has been having issues booking shows, while a proposed record deal has also been placed on hold.   “Given the circumstances and the seriousness of the charges, and the fact that she has pending intimidation charges, I’m not prepared to let the defendant travel out of the country,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller said in a statement.   Remy Ma is due back in court on January 22, 2008.
