(AllHipHop News) A close associate of the Louis Vuitton Don will be an artistic director for the iconic fashion house. Virgil Abloh, longtime Kanye West creative director, was hired by LV to lead the menswear division.

“I feel elated,” said Abloh. “This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.”

The Chicago-born Ghanaian-American launched his Off-White fashion label in 2014. Abloh joins fellow black designers Olivier Rousteing (Balmain) and Ozwald Boateng (Givenchy) to be lead creatives at a French heritage house.

His association with LV is said to be a continuation of the trendy combining of luxury brands with streetwear style. Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke stated, “Virgil is incredibly good at creating bridges between the classic and the zeitgeist of the moment.”

Thanks to his work on Kanye West and Jay-Z’s 2011 collaborative album Watch the Throne, Abloh earned a Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package. However, Caroline Robert won that year for Arcade Fire’s Scenes From The Suburbs.
