The family of late R&B singer Gerald Levert will publicly celebrate his career Friday (Nov. 17) with a musical tribute in Cleveland.
Stevie Wonder, Johnny Gill, Angie Stone, Angela Winbush and others are expected to attend the event, which will honor Levert’s legacy.
The ceremony starts at 12:00 p.m. at the Cleveland Music Hall in downtown Cleveland. Fans will be admitted on a first come-first serve basis.
Levert died of a heart attack Nov. 10 at the age of 40. Preliminary autopsy results revealed that Levert suffered from a moderate heart disease that may have ultimately led to his death.
At the time of his death, Levert had just returned from a tour of South Africa with his father, Eddie Levert, lead singer of The O’Jays.
The singer had also finished a new studio album, set for release in Feb. 2007, and had co-authored his first book, I Got Your Back, with his father Eddie and author Lyah LeFlore.
The book explores themes such as fatherhood, male bonding and reconciliation for broken families.
