Meek Mill, Malcolm Jenkins & Community Leaders To Participate In Philadelphia Policing Town Hall

Philly’s mayor will select a new law enforcement chief soon.

(AllHipHop News) Robert “Meek Mill” Williams has been a leading advocate in the fight for criminal justice reform. The Championships album creator is next set to take part in an event that will get input on what his hometown’s residents want from their future police commissioner.

Meek is joining with NFL Pro Bowler/Player’s Coalition co-founder Malcolm Jenkins for a town hall on policing in Philadelphia. Jenkins will host the gathering at the Community College of Philadelphia.

“The Mayor will select a new Police Commissioner this year. That choice is critical to restoring the community’s trust and creating a more fair and just system in Philadelphia,” says Jenkins. “Over the last few years, Philadelphia police have been rocked by scandal. And recently, the Plain View Project uncovered over 300 officers who made racist, xenophobic, and misogynist social media posts.”

The Philadelphia Eagles safety continues, “We have to address police brutality and over-policing of back and brown communities head on, It’s time to give people a voice. The new appointment gives the community a new chance to move forward.”

Besides Malcolm Jenkins and Meek Mill, the town hall will include panelists Keir Bradford-Grey (Chief Public Defender of Philadelphia),
G. Lamar Stewart (Director of Community Engagement DA, former Philadelphia Police Officer, licensed minister), Patricia Cummings (Head of the Conviction Integrity Unit, Philadelphia DA’s Office), Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller (Pastor of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church), Reverend Dr. Leslie D. Callahan (Pastor of St. Paul’s Baptist Church, POWER), and Sharrie Williams (News Anchor for WPVI-TV 6 ABC).

The Player’s Coalition’s “A Discussion About Philadelphia’s Next Police Commissioner” is scheduled for October 28 at 6 pm ET. For more information visit eventbrite.com.
