Mike Will Made-It Breaks Down How He & Rae Sremmurd Helped Create Beyonce’s “Formation” (VIDEO)

THE PRODUCER EXPLAINS “WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS”

(AllHipHop News) A lot of fans probably know Mike Will Made-It co-produced Beyoncé’s Lemonade hit “Formation.”

There’s likely less public knowledge that Rae Sremmurd‘s Khalif Swae Lee” Brown is credited as a co-writer for the song.

Mike Will Made-It explained how the award-winning record came together during a “What Had Happened Was” interview with Pigeons & Planes.

“We were driving to Coachella, and I’m playing beats in the car. We’re just in there freestyling, throwing different things back-and-forth at each other,” recalled the Atlanta native. “I hear Swae Lee say, ‘Something, something. Now let’s get in formation.'”

They documented the line and other ideas on a phone voice note before recording them in the studio.

Mike Will Made-It sent that raw studio recording to Beyoncé who later told the EarDrummers leader she liked the concept.

Bey and Mike eventually connected to record “Formation.”

“We were in the studio. She asked me if I hear anything, and I’m telling her different ab-libs that I hear. She’s telling me different things that she hears in the beat,” explained the Ransom 2 creator. “The process was like gumbo. Everybody’s in there just adding their own ingredients.”
