Los Angeles Brewery Honors Phife Dawg With Special New Brew

PHIFE HAS A NEW BEER !

Phife Dawg Has A New Brew Out

(AllHipHop News) Yesterday the LA Times revealed that the late Phife Dawg is being honored by a Los Angeles based beer company with a memorial beer called “Buggin’ Out.”

The libation is made by Mumford Brewing Co. in downtown L.A. and was released as a toast to the life of Malik Isaac Taylor aka the 5-foot assassin.

But there’s more to it than just a name.

The beer has an alcohol percent by volume of 5.3%, a nod to Phife Dawg’s actual 5’3” height.

The “Buggin’ Out” beer is an India Pale Ale chosen after the popular Northeast IPA’s found frequently on the East Coast.

“We’re a very musical family,” co-founder Peter Mumford told the LA Times. “We bring that love of music into the brewery. All of our tanks are named after musicians.”

Ironically, the “Buggin’ Out” beer wasn’t supposed to be a memorial tribute, but as the brewing was being finalized Phife Dawg passed away.

According to the LA Times the brew, “has some tropical and grassy top notes, then finishes dry with a lingering impression of bergamot and jasmine tea. ”

This week friends, family and fans attended a tributary celebration of Phife Dawg’s life at the Apollo Theatre.

A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West, D’Angelo, André 3000, the Roots, Busta Rhymes, Chuck D, KRS-One, Consequence, and several others all contributed to the celebration.

Phife Dawg also dropped a new video this week called “Nutshell” featuring production from the late-J Dilla.
