R. Kelly Cites Health Issues In Attempt To Get Out Of Jail Before His Trials

The self-described Pied Piper of R&B is hoping to be released from behind bars.

(AllHipHop News) Robert Sylvester Kelly is facing numerous sex-related charges in three different states. The R&B singer is currently behind bars awaiting federal trials in Illinois and New York as well as state trials in Illinois and Minnesota.

According to TMZ, R. Kelly is petitioning a judge for his freedom while he awaits the start of his trials. His lawyer filed legal documents claiming his client is not getting adequate medical treatment while being locked up for issues such as numbness in one of his hands, anxiety, and an untreated hernia.

The website reports:

The docs also try to assure the judge nothing untoward will happen if R. Kelly gets out. The docs vow the singer will not tamper with or intimidate witnesses. Greenberg also claims R. Kelly is not a flight risk … he has a passport which does not contain a single stamp showing travel, because he doesn’t really go outside the U.S. Besides, he wouldn’t even have access to his passport.

Kelly is charged with one count of conspiracy to receive child pornography, two counts of receiving child pornography, four counts of producing child pornography, five counts of enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity, and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice in the federal Illinois case.

Federal prosecutors in New York indicted him for racketeering predicated on criminal conduct including sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping, forced labor, and other crimes.

In addition, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Illinois charged Kelly with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The 52-year-old Chicago native is also facing a prostitution and solicitation case in Minnesota. Kelly maintains he is innocent of all alleged offenses.
