WATCH THE 4 LEGENDARY RADIO PERSONALITIES DISCUSS THE HISTORY OF THE CULTURE ON THE AIRWAVES

(AllHipHop News) Four prominent Hip Hop radio personalities recently got together to reflect on the popular entertainment medium that launched their respective careers.

Shade 45 host Sway Calloway connected with Kool DJ Red Alert, Mister Cee, and DJ Enuff to discuss the power of Hip Hop radio in the 1990’s.

“Radio in the 90’s was the best because we got to play what we wanted. I don’t remember any rules,” said Enuff. “We had a shot to give people their voice. To me, that was the most amazing feeling in the world.”

The discussion was posted on VH1’s YouTube channel as part of a video series associated with the network’s 1990’s-themed Hip Hop drama The Breaks.

Each of the deejays also spoke about the changes that took place on the radio as rap music began to rise to the mainstream in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s.

They also acknowledged other disc jockeys – such as Mr. Magic, DJ Chuck Chillout, Afrika Bambaataa, Jazzy Jayand Funkmaster Flex – for playing important roles in the development of the culture on the airwaves.

Other episodes of VH1’s “Behind The Breaks” feature Maino & Uncle Murda, The Lox, and Hip Hop journalists.
