(AllHipHop News) Following the shooting massacre at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, young people across America rallied to force gun reform legislation. An estimated 800,000 protesters assembled in Washington this weekend for the March For Our Lives.
Numerous celebrities performed at the event in DC. Among the talent to take the stage was Chicago rap star Vic Mensa. MTV caught up with The Autobiography album creator to talk about his positions on the gun debate.
“It’s the time that we hold the people who have taken on positions of power accountable, and we demand they stop putting their pocketbooks above our lives,” said the SaveMoneySaveLife founder. “The NRA could never pay enough money to bring back the kids from Stoneman Douglas, to bring back the kids in Chicago, to bring back Hadiya Pendleton. There’s no monetary value for that, there’s no price for that.”
March For Our Lives featured speakers from around the country, including youth activists from Parkland and Chicago. In addition, students from both cities met beforehand in Florida to discuss ending gun violence nationwide.
Mensa also made news on Saturday when he shared his thoughts on the controversial trending topic of Killer Mike’s interview with the NRA. The Roc Nation recording artist tweeted, “To [Killer Mike]: YOU DONT NEED AN AR-15. As a black man & fellow gun owner I would like to have a debate with you about your stances on gun-control.”
Mike responded by tweeting, “We got the same publicist and u have my phone number. I ain’t dodge’n u.”
