Watch Stormzy Cover Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl” Off ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ Album

The U.K. artist performs with up-and-coming singer Stalk Ashley.

(AllHipHop News) In July, Beyoncé presented The Lion King: The Gift as an accompaniment album to Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King movie. Queen Bey’s “Brown Skin Girl” with Saint Jhn, Wizkid, and Blue Ivy Carter was one of the standout tracks from the project.

While Blue Ivy has a way to go before she catches up with her mother (Beyoncé, 63 entries) or father (Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, 100 entries), the 7-year-old musical scion earned her first hit on the Hot 100 chart with “Brown Skin Girl.” The elder Knowles-Carter documented the creation of “Brown Skin Girl” and other tracks off The Lion King: The Gift on the ABC special Beyoncé Presents: Making the Gift.

British rapper Stormzy and rising musician Stalk Ashley covered “Brown Skin Girl” in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. He spits rhymes over live instrumentation as Ashley sings about celebrating women of darker shades.

Stormzy garnered critical acclaimed for his 2017 album Gang Signs & Prayer. The London-born performer has been honored by the BBC Music Awards, BET Awards, Brit Awards, GQ Men Of The Year Awards, MOBO Awards, and MTV Europe Music Awards.
