Wyclef Jean Grand Marshal In Caribbean Day Parade

Wyclef Jean is one of five grand marshals at today’s 37th annual Caribbean American West Indian Day Carnival in New York. The annual event started at 11 am this morning (September 6) in Brooklyn and celebrates the culture of those who hail from the West Indies. Over 2 million people are expected to see at least 70 floats and hundreds of people celebrating in costumes on Eastern Parkway. Wyclef is the first Haitian to be a grand marshal for the parade. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was supposed to be one of grand marshals with the rapper, but it wasn’t clear if she was able to attend to due the hospitalization of her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, with a heart ailment. Gov. George Pataki, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other city officials will walk in the parade.
