Damon Dash Responds To Memphis Bleek’s Comments About The Fall Of Roc-A-Fella (VIDEO)
(AllHipHop News) Former Roc-A-Fella Records artist Memphis Bleek did an interview with N.O.R.E.’s Drink Champs podcast. The conversation included the Jay Z associate claiming he tried to warn Damon Dash about the fall of Roc-A-Fella and how the industry would turn its back on him. Dash responded to Bleek’s statements while speaking with Dr. Boyce Watkins. [ALSO READ: Memphis Bleek Believes Ego Broke Up Roc-A-Fella] “It ain’t no try to warn me. Bleek wanted to warn me? That’s how he felt, then he should have said, ‘Dame they’re about to cut you off.’ I never got that from Bleek,” said Dash. “I would have corrected him. I would have been like, ‘Brother, there is no cutting me off. I don’t want to be apart of that. I’m doing my own thing.’” In addition, Dash expressed his belief that he was purposely kept from keeping control of Roc-A-Fella. While rumors about what caused the collapse of the Roc have circulated for over a decade, the label’s fellow co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke recently told Complex the intent was to sell the company once they raised its value. “Once we did the deal with Def Jam the plan was to build to sell. There was a formula put in and it was a certain number times net, and probably the only regret was it should’ve been times gross but they weren’t doing any deals like that,” explained Biggs. “We wanted to sell in 2002 but we were having so much success they extended the deal for another three years. They didn’t think Jay was going to last this long.” [ALSO READ: Dame Dash Talks Jay Z Pursuing Aaliyah & His Own Relationship With The Singer (VIDEO)] Watch Memphis Bleek and Dame Dash’s respective interviews below.

Roc-A-Fella Co-Founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke Talks Jay Z’s Famous “92 Bricks” Line
(AllHipHop News) In a music career that spans three decades, Jay Z has many memorable lines with a lot of braggadocious declarations. One of Jigga’s claims that has been challenged, dissected, and defended for nearly 15 years is the “92 bricks” bar off “Never Change.” [ALSO READ: Jay Z Reportedly Working On New Music (AUDIO)] Jay raps on The Blueprint cut: Lost 92 bricks had to fall back. Knocked a n-gga off his feet, but I crawled back. Had A-1 credit, got more crack. From the first to the fifth, gave it all back. If, I’m not a hustler what you call that? This is before rap, this is all fact. But was it all fact? Complex caught up with fellow Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke to get his take on Jay’s famous lyrics. “I’m not sure. You know what Jay says, ‘Believe half of what you see, none of what you hear, even if it’s spat by me.’ [laughs],” said Biggs. “Back then it was another life, so he raps about certain things, but it’s not to be glorified. It’s about telling a story about what happens in the hood everyday.” Biggs also addressed another question that has been circulating the internet for years. Did the Roc fall apart because of internal conflict? According to Biggs, the plan from the beginning was always to sell the company at some point. “Once we did the deal with Def Jam the plan was to build to sell. There was a formula put in and it was a certain number times net, and probably the only regret was it should’ve been times gross but they weren’t doing any deals like that,” he explained. “We wanted to sell in 2002 but we were having so much success they extended the deal for another three years. They didn’t think Jay was going to last this long.” [ALSO READ: Businessman Don Peebles Says Jay Z Fits White America’s Code Of A Black Man (VIDEO)]

Jay Z Reportedly Working On New Music (AUDIO)
(AllHipHop News) Is Hov ready to return with his 13th studio album? According to talk in the industry Jay Z is currently working on music. Statik Selektah appeared on The Combat Jack Show, and the producer mentioned the Roc Nation boss could be putting together new records. [ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: Kxng Crooked Talks Collaborating With Statik Selektah, Modern Hip Hop Beef & Refusing To Sell His Soul] The production mind behind the Statik KXNG joint album with Kxng Crooked was asked which other artists he would like to work with in the future. His first answer was Jay Z. When questioned if Jay was working on something at the moment, Statik replied, “Yeah, I heard he was.” Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke added more fuel to the speculation his former business partner could be back in the studio. Biggs revealed in an interview with the Rap Radar podcast that Jay told him he planned to make one more album. Biggs supposedly responded to Jay’s one final LP comment by saying, “Come on man. You’re too close to the Beatles now.” The iconic rock band’s total of 19 #1 albums is currently the all-time record for any act. Jay is in second place with 13. Another Roc affiliate shared his belief that Jay is actually retired for good. Memphis Bleek recently expressed his mentor was unlikely to release another album. While it is not clear if the Brooklyn Hip Hop legend has another solo effort in the works, there have also been rumors swirling for several years that Jay and his wife Beyoncé are teaming up for a collaborative project.
