The first effort fared a more Pop sound, while Vol. 2 is more R&B, soul. Garland has immediately received comparison to Pop Soul singer Justin Timberlake. On being a solo artist, Garland reveals “The biggest misconception about me is that I’m disposable,” he said. “That I’m just a boy-band kid, come and go. But I’m a real artist, I have something to say.”
And with genre-bending artists including Frank Ocean, Miguel and Dawn Richard, R&B is currently seeing a renovation. Time will tell if Garland will join the party.
